News — Local businesses raise funds for SARA search & rescue equipment

Each year here at the Cwmbran Centre, we put a little money aside into our ‘Community Pot’ that can be used for good causes in the local area. Our last donation of 2018 was to the very worthy SARA — the largest multi-disciplinary search and rescue organisation in the UK.

Severn Area Rescue Association is the local Mountain Rescue team based in Gloucestershire, Hereford & Worcestershire, and Gwent. They provide 24/7 specialist marine and land search capabilities to the emergency services (Police, Fire and Ambulance), and are often called in to assist with searching for missing people, help rescue those in distress from inaccessible areas, provide vital flood support to the county and beyond, as well as operate an inshore lifeboat capability.

Towards the end of 2018, SARA put out an appeal to raise funds to purchase new, high-visibility jackets. We were very happy to be able to contribute to this fantastic charity, and along with generous donations from Oakley Electrical Contractors Ltd and another anonymous donator, SARA were able to buy all of the jackets that were needed.
