News — Purple Tuesday – 12th November
Almost one in every five people in the UK has a disability or impairment, and over 50% of UK households have a connection to someone with a disability. To recognise the importance and needs of disabled consumers, disability organisation, Purple, has established ‘Purple Tuesday’, the UK’s first accessible shopping day.
On Tuesday 12th November 2019, Cwmbran Centre joins many UK businesses and organisations in supporting Purple Tuesday.
Inclusive shopping is something we are very passionate about at the Cwmbran Centre, so we are pleased to be supporting Purple Tuesday again this year. We want to help our customers to understand that not every disability is visible, and we also want to help our disabled customers to feel safe at the Centre. For this reason, we participate in the ‘Safe Places’ scheme.
Safe Places is a Torfaen scheme that helps vulnerable people feel safe when they are out and about in their local community. If someone feels they are at risk, scared, bullied or harassed while they are out, they now have ‘Safe Places’ to go to seek help and ask for a contact to be made. Cwmbran Centre has a number of retailers participating in the scheme including Asda, Barclays Bank PLC, British Heart Foundation Home Store, Citizens Advice Bureau, Congress Theatre, Costa Coffee, Cwmbran Library, Cwmbran Centre Management, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Halifax Building Society, HSBC, Lloyds Bank Plc, Matalan, Mecca Bingo, Monmouthshire Building Society, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest, Newland Rennie Wilkins, Peter Alan Estate Agents, Principality Building Society, Santander, Starbucks, The Body Shop, The Co-Operative Bank, The Entertainer and Wilko’s.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Centre. To raise awareness, we will be lighting up Llywelyn Walk with purple and our customer services staff will be wearing purple for Purple Tuesday, and we encourage customers to come dressed in purple too!
